DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN REFUGEE AND MIGRATION STUDIES
About This Course
Philosophy the Programme
The ever increasing global challenges of sociocultural, political and environmental nature are compelling millions of people to migrate as refugees or Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). To respond to these challenges at global, regional and national levels, academic institutions have an enormous role in training individuals with multidisciplinary expertise in refugee and migration. Kenya continues to advance its efforts to promote durable solutions to its protracted refugee situation from the initial encampment approach to the current Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework and the Global Compact on Refugees that endorses refugee integration. Kenya’s acceptance of this policy commitments as a major host of refugees in East Africa implies the need for experts in refugee and migration affairs. In this regard, Garissa University is committed to contribute to this field by preparing individuals with proficiency of responding to refugee and migration crises.
