About This Course

  1. Philosophy of the Programme

The government continues to reform the education and training sector to respond to the emerging issues aimed at ensuring that the country’s goals and aspirations are realized. Garissa University bears a profound moral responsibility to increase the awareness, knowledge, skills and values in education, technology processes and development; nurture talent and creativity through research, innovation, consultancy, community outreach and interconnectivity, entrepreneurship needed to meet the needs of society; and create a just and sustainable future. The Garissa university school of education plays a critical role in making this vision a reality by focusing on transformative education and cutting-edge instruction that prepares professionals through innovative and contemporary higher education curricular and industrial research programmes. These professionals are expected to plan, design, develop, implement, manage, teach, work in, and influence society’s learning institutions through cooperative effort.

  1. Goal of the Programme 

The goal of this programme is to produce innovative graduates who are well versed in knowledge, values, attitudes and competencies appropriate for ICT, financing, researching, designing, developing, implementing and managing curriculum in evolving contexts.

  1. Expected Learning Outcomes of the Programme 

By the end of the programme, the learner will be able to:

  1. Design and conduct educational research.
  2. Carry out quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques and methods in education.
  3. Integrate ICT in educational instruction and management.
  4. Analyze concepts in curriculum theory and practice for application to educational programmes.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge, skills and attitudes appropriate to financing of educational institutions.
  6. Apply the principles of instructional supervision for effective management of teaching and learning processes.
  7. Analyse and apply various leadership styles in educational institutions. 
  1. Admission Requirements for the Programme

The common regulations for Masters’ degree in all schools of Garissa University shall apply. In addition to fulfilling the common university entry regulations in Masters’ programme, an applicant for the degree of M.Ed. in curriculum studies must satisfy any one of the following four entry requirements:

  1. Holders of Bachelor Degree (at least Second Class honours Upper Division) of Garissa University or institutions recognized by Garissa University Senate in relevant field.
  2. At least hold a second-class Bachelor’s degree (Upper Division) B.A or B.Sc. with a Post-graduate Diploma in Education or an equivalent certificate in Education, all recognized by Garissa University.
  3. Holders of Second Class (Lower Division) degrees with two years relevant experience after award of the degree or one research publication in relevant field. 
  4. Holders of a Pass degree in relevant field with a relevant experience of not less than five years after award of the degree.
