Garissa University Enhances Research Capacity Through Open Research Methods Training
Garissa University has embarked on an important initiative to strengthen its research capacity by training its staff in open research methods. The six-day workshop brought together academic staff for intensive training aimed at enhancing their ability to adopt and implement open research practices.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ahmed Warfa, officially opened the workshop, emphasizing the critical role of open science in promoting transparency, accessibility, and innovation within the global research community.
He was accompanied by the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Fredrick B.J.A. Ngala, who underscored Garissa University’s unwavering commitment to nurturing a culture of research excellence.
The workshop, led by Prof. Julius Huho, is part of a broader program supported by INASP and funded by the Templeton World Charity Foundation. This initiative seeks to advance open science practices across East Africa, aligning seamlessly with Garissa University’s strategic vision to elevate research capabilities and promote meaningful community engagement.
With 60 researchers undergoing this capacity-building training, the university looks forward to the transformative impact this initiative will have on both its internal research ecosystem and the wider academic landscape.
