Garissa University officially opened Day One of the IRSD-2025 conference at the Lecture Theatre Hall, bringing together scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to advance conversations on innovation, resilience, and sustainable development.
Opening Ceremony & Strategic Launches
Garissa University is honored to host the 2nd International Conference on Innovation, Resilience, and Sustainable Development (IRSD-2025) at the University’s Lecture Theatre Hall. The conference was officially opened by Vice Chancellor Prof. Ahmed O. Warfa, who underscored the critical role of innovation and community resilience in achieving national and global sustainable development goals.
During the opening ceremony, the Vice Chancellor also led two key institutional milestones:
- Launch of the Garissa University Multidisciplinary Journal on Research and Sustainable Development – a platform to showcase rigorous, impactful scholarship.
- Launch of the Garissa University Alumni Association – strengthening engagement, mentorship, and collaboration with graduates across the region and beyond.
Keynote Speakers & Thought Leadership
Day One featured high-level keynote presentations from distinguished speakers whose expertise enriched the conference dialogue:
- Dr. Idle Farah, CEO – Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC), who spoke on regional development, resilience, and inclusive growth.
- Prof. Guia Julve, University of Girona, Spain, who shared global perspectives on innovation and sustainable development.
Their contributions provided a strong analytical and practical foundation for delegates as they explore pathways to “Fostering Innovation, Resilience, and Inclusive Development Beyond 2030.”
