Today, Garissa University and Mercy Corps fulfilled their promise of establishing a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Lab that will greatly benefit the pastoralist community. Mercy Corps delivered a range of technological equipment and furniture to equip the facility.

Among the items received by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ahmed Warfa, are 15 computers, 5 GPS units, 7 UPS batteries, A large-format printer and map plotter, 75 inch screen, 15 work stations and 30 office chairs.

Mercy Corps is a non-governmental organization that works on tackling poverty among fragile communities. The organization is partnering with Garissa University to set-up a fully equipped GIS Lab in the University.

The lab will be instrumental

in analyzing complex spatial data and creating dynamic visualizations that provide insights into social, economic and environmental patterns, relationships, and trends to guide decision-making.

The University will leverage the GIS resources to offer short courses and degree programmes in geospatial and remote sensing.
