MESSAGE FROM THE REGISTRAR ASA

The Office of the Registrar ASA maintains official academic student records. This includes academic certificates, transcripts, curricular, admissions, and student personal information. Records in Registrar’s Office are managed with the highest standards of integrity, accuracy, confidentiality, and security.

FUNCTIONS OF THE OFFICE OF REGISTRAR ACADEMICS & STUDENT AFFAIRS

  1. Secretary to the of Senate.
  2. Manage the academic calendar.
  3. Generate and maintain records of all students admitted to Garissa University.
  4. Custodian of academic policies, rules and regulations, practices, and norms.
  5. Assist Schools/Directorates/Institutes in the preparation and implementation of policies, regulations and curricular as approved by Senate.
  6. Plan, organize, direct, control and oversee interpretation and implementation of academic procedures by students and staff.
  7. Interpret and enforce polices and regulations of the university.
  8. Examine proposals from Schools/Directorates/Institutes on new academic programmes for onward transmission to Senate and Commission for University Education.
  9. Facilitate academic staff development and capacity building.
  10. Prepare and manage annual budgets for the registrar’s office.
  11. Liaise with donor agencies for provision of undergraduate and postgraduate Scholarships/Fellowships.
  12. Custodian of all student Academic Transcripts and Certificates.
  13. Initiate proposals on student fees income and review of the fees from time-to-time.
  14. Develop strategy for student enrolment, student progress, graduation, academic quality and standards.
  15. Ensure the integrity, accuracy, quality, and security of all academic records of current and former students;
  16. Facilitate effective student admission, registration, and enrolment;
  17. Build secure student data files and set policy and procedures for their responsible use;
  18. Ensure efficient and effective academic processes to meet statutory and contractual requirements and comply with government agency requirements e.g., CUE, KUCCPS, HELB.
  19. Contribute to the strategic direction, management, and development of the University.
  20. Work with the Finance Department to ensure that resource allocation promotes strategic academic objectives and management of academic resources.
  21. Develop proactive relationships with relevant external stakeholders and monitor developments in best practice within the higher education sector. Ensure that innovation solutions are incorporated into the academic curricular, policies, and procedures.
  22. Counsel and advise students and staff on academic matters;
  23. Interpret and enforce policies, regulations and resolutions of the Senate, and its committees;
  24. Liaise with Registrar AP on management and efficient use of lecture/teaching halls/labs.
  25. Supervise programme audit systems and academic resource verification by CUE and other regulatory bodies.
  26. Provide direction to ensure the critical interfaces of activity between offices are well integrated and coordinated.
